What are Buffs in Fallout 4?
Buffs are enhancements that provide beneficial effects to the player's character for a certain duration. Buffs can include an increase in stats, improved resistances, faster HP regeneration, or even enhanced combat capabilities. Being able to manage different buffs effectively can greatly enhance your character's performance and survivability both in and out of combat.
Most of the buffs you'll find in the game can be acquired through consumables. Some of these consumables provide temporary buffs that last for a certain duration. Unfortunately, the duration of the buffs can only be seen in the crafting menu on your workbench.
Are there permanent buffs in Fallout 4?
Yes, there are several ways to obtain permanent buffs for your character in Fallout 4. One way to obtain permanent buffs is through collecting Bobbleheads. Bobbleheads provide permanent stat boosts enhancing either one of the seven S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck) or other skills. Whenever you collect a Bobblehead, it grants a +1 point increase to the corresponding stat or skill.
Another means to obtain permanent buffs is through upgrading Perks. Perks are related to S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats and each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attribute has 10 associated perks and forms over 70 total perks available in the game that players can choose from each time they level up. By upgrading certain perks, your character is granted permanent buffs depending on which perk you decide to upgrade.
Players can also acquire permanent buffs by recruiting Companions. Certain companions can provide passive bonuses and buffs to your character, granted you've reached the max affinity level for that certain companion. Once you reach an affinity level of 1000 for that certain companion, you will be granted with their respective Companion Perk. There are also some Weapons and Armor that have modifiers and can provide permanent buffs when equipped.
