Settlements are locations in Fallout 4 where players can build and customize various sites within the Commonwealth. These Settlements serve as a home base that can act as trade routes between multiple settlements, plant crops for food, generate power and water sources, build defense grids, attract new settlers, and more, to create a self-sufficient site. Players may also customize settlements by installing individual structures like furniture, structures, decorations, and more.

Please see the Settlements Guide for tips on how to build your settlement.

Settlements in Fallout 4

Settlements are locations that can be rebuilt and customized according to the player's preference. Settlements also allow players to construct structures, craft fences, take scraps from debris, accommodate settlers, and manage the whole zone with various resources. Over time, the Settlement will grow in number and you need to make sure that you have enough Power, Water, and Food to support your settlement's population. This is essential in keeping your settlers happy.

  • Once you control a Workshop , you control the settlement that holds it, you can view your current settlements in your Pip-Boy.
  • Settlements can not be destroyed, all structures placed are persistent. In the event of catastrophe, all the dwellers die and you must repopulate the settlement.
  • When your settlement is under attack you will receive a notification. Returning to successfully defend it will prevent the loss of your settlers.
  • All of the resources such as food, water, power are managed by your player.
  • Settlements are not mandatory for players to create, but they offer a high value in rewards.
  • You can have Workshops in your settlements.
