Factions in Fallout 4 are the NPC associations and groups in the game. Your alliance to one of the 4 major factions will determine a significant portion of the story and Quests you have access to. At some point in the main story progression, you will have to choose alliance to 1 at the expense of the others. Spend some time getting to know each faction and their motivations before committing to their cause.

Faction Hostility in Fallout 4
Interacting with Factions will improve your standing with them in Fallout 4. These Factions may clash and conflict with each other so your interactions with one may affect your relationships with another, ending certain Faction questlines and making them hostile. This is affected by progressing through specific Quests related to Factions that go against another Faction's values or beliefs. Players can check to see which Factions different factions have a hostile relationship with below. Toward the Ending of the main story of the game, players will need to make a final conclusion as to which Faction they align to unravel their final ending based on the decisions made.
Faction Quests in Fallout 4
Completing the quests specified in the 'Hostile Factions' sections below will cause any of the remaining quests of the now-hostile faction to fail/become unavailable. Consult the Quests order if you are trying to complete as many of the quests as possible during one playthrough. The game will prompt you prior to making 1 of these decisions.
