Omg! I have tried for so long to defeat the mirelurk king and the other mirelurks. I remember one time even getting close to defeating the king, but then the other mirelurks came along and killed me. But, yesterday night I started trying something new. There is a broken down bridge near Neponset Park. On the bridge I found a broken down bus. It was a little difficult getting through the slanted doorway into the bus, but once you get in, it's a good place to be. Using a sniper rifle and being careful about sneaking, you can manage to shoot at the mirelurks through a broken window facing Neponset Park. It's a bit of a slow process, and requires patience, but in the end, if you are being ruthlessly defeated by the king and crew, it's a pretty good strategy. So far, I have managed to overall remain unseen by the mirelurks, just shooting at them with my sniper rifle. Usually I prefer other guns, but in this case, a sniper is the best because you can't really see the mirelurks without the scope. The king hasn't come out yet, but fortunately, it is a little easier to kill without so many other mirelurks on you. And also, as a side note, I haven't tried getting out of the bus yet, but if you have trouble getting through the slanted door, then you can just fast travel out, since you are still in the Commonwealth. I would definitely suggest this strategy to people like me, who are currently unable to defeat the creatures of Neponset Park. (Nothing is yet guarunteed fully, I am still in the process of trying this out, but I think that there isn't much to lose by giving it a go)
