Flare Gun in Fallout 4 is a Ballistic Weapon. Flare Gun is a unique pistol that is not designed to deal direct damage but instead typically used to summon nearby Minutemen for assistance. Ballistic Weapons are firearms that usually utilize conventional ammunition to inflict damage on targets. Weapons can be modified using the Weapons Workbench. Players would need to reach Local Leader rank 2 perk to craft a Weapons Workbench at a Settlement, or they can find these workbenches scattered all over the Commonwealth.

- This weapon is a break-action single-shot pistol designed to summon nearby Minutemen for assistance but it can also be used to attract nearby Brotherhood of Steel vertibirds.
- Firing this weapon directly at an enemy would deal a small amount of damage, but any other weapon will yield better results so it's not recommended to use this against an enemy in combat.
- This weapon cannot be modded.

- Unlike in the previous games, weapons in Fallout 4 are divided into three groups: normal, legendary, and unique. Normal weapons lack any special attributes. Legendary weapons come with random bonuses and are exclusively obtained from legendary enemies. Unique weapons come with predetermined names and will always retain the same special bonuses they came with. Unique weapons are often acquired through quests or purchased from merchants. While normal and legendary weapons may alter their names when modded, unique weapons maintain their original names.
