Fallout 4 Wiki: Everything We Know So Far

Fallout 4 Gameplay

Returning Features in Fallout 4

Fallout 4 retains some familiar gameplay elements that were present in previous games such as Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Fallout 4 still features the POV feature of switching between first and third-person view. Well-known or common enemies also make their return such as Mutated Rodents/Animals, Mirelurks, Raiders, Empowered Mutants, Deathclaws, and the Ghouls. There is also the user-friendly Pip-Boy which the player accesses to view their stats, inventory, map, quest logs, and more.

When it comes to the end-game, if a player finishes the main campaign, they may continue playing to experience the aftermath of all the actions or decisions made and complete other side quests, a feature that was added in the third add-on of the game, Broken Steel.

New Features in Fallout 4

The Avatar in Fallout 4

The avatar of the player is now supported with dialogues that are fully voiced, adding an extra layer of immersion to this installment of the Fallout series. But when it comes to dialogue choices, players can no longer see the full response, but instead, only short phrases of a dialogue to choose from that only give a "general idea" of what the avatar will say. Conversations with NPCs are also cinematic, where the camera uses Bethesda's infamous camera angles to show both the NPC and Avatar's facial and body expressions. Moreover, the avatar is now capable of toggling between sprinting or just regular jogging when moving.

Companions and Affinity for Fallout 4

Companions in Fallout 4 now feature an affinity system that contributes points toward positive or negative opinions of the protagonist, depending on the choices you have made. The Affinity System further develops the relationship between the companion and the player, unique questlines become available, additional dialogue is unlocked — and ultimately, romance. By maximizing the affinity with a companion, the game rewards the player with special perks that can be useful in different ways. It is important to mention that the Affinity System is a hidden stat, which means it is impossible to check the level or progress of a companion's relationship without console commands.

Crafting Made Possible in Fallout 4!

Crafting in the previous installments that came before Fallout 4 was only a minor gameplay feature. But now, the game focuses on the Crafting system, making all of the items you find in the game useful as a source of material. Crafting features an abundant category of items a player can produce such as Settlement Objects, Item Modifications, Equipment, Consumables, and more.

Every craftable item requires a specific type and number of components that are acquired from scrapping junk items at a crafting table or overworld objects such as Settlements, trees, and even cars. Unlike its predecessor/s, crafting or modification generally does not require the player to learn a schematic, but instead, requires unlocking or improving certain crafting-related perks — most craftable items are already known by default

Equipment no longer Deteriorates in Fallout 4!

Yes! You heard that right, Weapons and Armor do not deteriorate in Fallout 4 when it is used and it does not require maintenance. Apart from this amazing change, there is a variety of upgradable and customizable pieces of equipment, Armor is now split into different parts to mix different set pieces, and the usage of Power Armor now requires batteries known as Fusion Cores.

Fallout 4 Character Progression

Changes have been made in Fallout 4, where skills have now been removed and replaced with a 7x10 chart that features Perks. Upon leveling up, the player can unlock a new perk that consists of prerequisites based on attributes and level, and each perk has multiple tiers. The developers wanted to provide players with the experience of having some sense of freedom when it comes to combat and exploration.

Combat in Fallout 4

V.A.T.S. or (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System) makes its return in Fallout 4, it is said to be a critical feature in combat where real-time enters a state of slow-motion or "bullet time", this allows players to target specific body parts to apply specific injuries, aim for headshots, or to target the enemy's weakness. When using V.A.T.S., players can also disarm an enemy, blind them, and even slow enemies by targeting their legs or knees.

Fallout 4 also makes changes to critical hits. In previous Fallout titles, Critical Hits are randomized when the player attacks an enemy, Bethesda removes the Critical Hit Chances and replaces it with a Critical meter that fills up, giving players combat awareness of when to use it if they are aiming to land a critical hit. Apart from that, throwables such as grenades can now be equipped as a secondary weapon.

What are Settlements in Fallout 4?

A Settlement or Settlements in Fallout 4 is a brand new feature of the game that features the building of houses and managing communities or a community. Inside a settlement, players can scrap items and structures to acquire resources, housing, gardening, constructing defensive perimeters, stations, and more. A settlement is your base or your small community where you can fully customize it to your liking, assign jobs to help keep it running, and build a safe space from the dangers of the Wasteland.

What is Survival Mode in Fallout 4?

Survival Mode in Fallout 4 is a difficulty mode that disables auto and manual saves from the menu. Survival Mode provides something close to a "real-life" experience where the only way a player can save the game is to sleep on a bed, a mattress, or inside a sleeping bag. Survival Mode also adds detrimental changes such as subjecting the avatar to hunger, thirst, exhaustion, and fast travel being disabled. These are just some of the primary changes that heavily affect gameplay when in survival mode, and there are more that further increase the difficulty and challenge in Survival Mode.

Mods Supported in Fallout 4

Fallout 4 is recognized as the first Fallout title to receive native mod support for consoles. Back in E3 2015, Todd Howard announced that the Xbox One version of Fallout 4 offers mod support with the use of Creation Kit for PC that became available to download on April 26, 2016. This followed the release of the Xbox One mod support that dropped on May 31, and not long after, Mod support for PlayStation was also announced in June, delayed, and ultimately, canceled in September.

Despite PlayStation not having this feature, Bethesda and Sony came to an agreement that allowed mods to be accessible on the PlayStation®4 after the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. Even though it was implemented, PlayStation users were only limited to using the mod-supported feature with assets that were already established within the game files of Fallout 4.

      3 years after release this game is still a glitch ridden mess of a garbage so called "video game" and instead of fixing the game which has been out for 3 years, Bethesda releases a new Fallout game (76) with even more problems then this game has. I currently have 4 quests I can't turn in because the game won't let me interact with the NPC's necessary to complete the quest. The game is such a mess I honestly think Sony, Microsoft and steam should just take the game off their stores until Bethesda DOES THEIR JOB AND FIXES THEIR 3 YEAR OLD GAME. Bethesda are by far the worst game developers in the country and SCREW the fanboy's feelings! Facts don't care about your feelings fanboys!!!

        Step 1: Build 4 or more Water Purifiers-Industrial.
        Step 2: Connect them to Medium Generators because they require 5 Power in order to run.
        Step 3: After you connect your Water Purifiers-Industrial leave them, because Purified Water don't generate at faster rate( I suggest you explore the commonwealth do side-quests or just do the Dora the Explorer thing)(PS: I don't suggest you to wait or sleep 24 hours because it won't work just leave them)
        Step 4: Once you played the game over an hour or more goo back to your Settlement and check the Workshop if you have enough Purified Waters let's say x100 Purified Waters sell them.
        Step 5: There you go you earned enough CAPS to buy new gears,refill your ammos,buy explosives and even buy Legendary/Unique Gears and Weapons.

        Lastly: If you sell x1 Purified Water it'll cost 20 Caps therefore if you multiply them by the quantity of your Purified Water you can earn more than 3000+ or more CAPS. If you're confused here's the table see below.

        If you have x100 Purified Water you can earn = 2,000 Caps

        X100 = 2,000 Caps
        X200 = 4,000 Caps
        X300 = 6,000 Caps
        x400 = 8,000 Caps
        x500 = 10,000 Caps
        x600 = 12,000 Caps
        x700 = 14,000 Caps
        X800 = 16,000 Caps
        x900 = 18,000 Caps
        x1000 = 20,000 Caps
